I think it's wonderful. Definitely voting for you

I think you could use more contrast on the people-it's kind of hard to see what's going on in there. Also, why the big black jaggedy outlines? I think it'd look just as fine without them. If you can't differentiate your characters from the background without a big outline, something's funky.

I agree a little texture in the purple shaded area would look nice, but this is great as it is. But where's Toto?

That's funny - I was listening to Empire of the Sun when I clicked on this image. I think it's really well done, but I think a character would be a good idea to put the whole piece in context. Right now I'm not 100% sure what it is.

It's a good start, though I think you might want to add more contrast, especially along his jawline... some more orangy peachy tones might help, cause he's looking rather pinkypurple right now.

This is amazing! It's just a little unclear what's going on with the person inside of the boss, but other than that, great wrok!

After seeing all these amazing entries, I'm a little nervous to submit my own.

I saw the preview and immediately knew whose this was. What can I say, is it even possible for you to produce a mediocre pixel?

I agree, though, the streets do look a little too clean.

Although I find it rather hard to read, this is great work! Like (most) everybody else, I especially like the red border - it makes it so much more interesting.

It looks great, but it must really, truly suck to be a ball turret gunner. Especially if your plane's landing gear was shot out and the hydraulics jammed.

That's really nice - I love the perspective and use of color on the buildings.

If you went to all the trouble of texturing it, I think you should have also added more contrast so we could easily see the texture.

What kind of class involves condom drawing?

Oh man, that looks great. That you managed to AA with only 4 colors is pretty awesome.

Donut? Doughnut? I thought both were correct.

Pawige: Thanks :) It seems that her arm sort of blends in with the flower, making it lumpy. I'll hafta play around with that. Though, it seems to me that either her right arm is too short or her left is too long. I'll touch this up... eventually...

Propbertson - Basically, the whole idea of pixel art is to limit the number of colors you use. It's a central part of the whole pixel scene... the first pixels were for game systems that could only support 16 or so colors. It just shows a higher skill level when someone is able to create a great image with very few colors, relying more on laying the pixels than slapping down hundreds of colors to make it look good.

I think AAing the hair would really improve this piece.

user

The glass is great, but I think the apples could use a little more work. A little more AAing could go a long way.

user
Hydronium @ 1/20/2009 23:50 commented on Ganesha
This seems like pixel art, but you could really stand to eliminate 150 of those colors or so.

To critique the actual art, I think it might look better if you incorporated more of those blues into his skin, to keep from having too straight of a color gradient. Get some interest in there and all.

His scarf-thing is too crisp compared with the rest of the piece; it doesn't really flow and seems sort of slapped on top of his body.

The AAing looks great, although I do have to agree with DJD - the white is rather painful on the eyes.

Arylic - Thanks for the suggestions, made some small edits. You're completely spot on about the background, it was done in about 2 minutes

Any ideas on how I could fix that up?

Thanks! Though Mr. Glowery still lacks any form of decent eye...

Looks really good, the anatomy seems pretty decent (although her boobs are a bit big, but something tells me that was intentional :P)

I think it might look better if you'd incorporated those blues into the shadows of her skin to avoid straight color ramps. Adds more dimension and interest and stuff.

I love the little people - there's so much detail for things just a few pixels high!

Great work! At first glance, I thought it was one of Fool's.

Like everyone else, I'd suggest AAing to smooth everything out, especially on the elf's cloak and on the reindeer. Santa's face and beard seem a little messy, too.
