If they're not Skaven then I'd call them something else, but having it as a warhammer fan-game would probably be a-okay so long as it's free to play. Go for it, and make it so you can be a Plague monk!

The tree trunk looks fine and the canopy (if that's the correct word to use) looks fine too, but I think there's a bit of a visual issue as to how they fit together. I'm no expert on trees, I can hardly make them in 3D let alone pixel art but I suspect the root (sorry!) of the problem surrounds the area where the main trunk splits off into multiple branches just below the leaves. It just doesn't seem natural. If I were to suggest a quick fix, it would be to see what it looks like with the green leaf canopy pulled down so it starts before the branches begin and only the main trunk is visible.

I may be wrong though.

Amazing, this has inspired me to try something similar. Love it.

@Rooster: Never heard of Eclipse before, however upon a quick google search it's clear they've used the 'free-to-use' Chipsets by Japanese pixel artists 'Mac & Blue', as well as many other graphics produced by the RPG Maker Community. Kiwi used the M&B Ship tileset as the basis for the ship, which is probably why there are several similarities such as the barrel and the basic floor (which he's improved upon).

The first one is made up of graphics from the Rpg Maker 2000 RTP (by Enterbrain), deffinitely an improvement. /thumbs up

@-DE-: Thanks for the feedback, I'm currently answering questions/quieries for Kiwi which relate to the game itself as he has limited access to the internet for the time being. Regarding the brightness of the sprites, thanks to Kiwi's laptop being "double backlit" (flippin' vaios) all the graphics he produces appear much darker on other computer screens. When he passes the images over to me to put into the game I crank the brightness up to match the rest of the graphics (the boat in this example). Seems this process wasn't added to the sprites in this animation (but it will for the final game, so all is well).

I'll bring up the matter of the characters being too similar, though given they don't associate with each other very much. If they were the two main characters there would be an issue, though! We may sneakily add more colour to the male character after this animation takes place in the game and hope nobody notices.

We probably won't be cranking up the brightness of the gun shots as anyone who's seen any flintlock weapon fire will tell you it's mostly just smoke and pellets (should you be unlucky enough to be on the receiving end). We may add more smoke coming out of the thing when it goes off, though!

@Moss: We've kicked up development in the past fortnight and everything's starting to come together slowly, here's a small piece of a battle sequence which takes place early in the game. The brand new face graphics are also coming along nicelyl Still no ETA on the release, we're keeping it quiet and almost entirely hidden away here on pixeljoint until we're nearing the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. :)

@Skeddles: Unfortunately battle monster graphics in the engine we're using (Enterbrain Rm2k3) are non-animated and there's not a lot we can do outside of completely scripting our own battle system from the ground up to change this. We're putting extra work into character/monster spell animations and we'll be using very few 'recycled' monsters to make up for it, though!

(Also, at release we'll be visiting a few forums as well as trusting community members at others with being in charge of posting a 'master' post for us at their favourite message boards/communities. Stick around and once we get something out there I can forward you the Bulletin code in the hopefully not-too distant future!)

@Daxter: I agree that the highlights look a tad strange. It's something that will be looked at as we constantly update and revamp the character facesets.

CoffeeSquid @ 10/13/2008 05:38 commented on Rika - Character Portrait [Updated]

@Leath: Drastically altering facegraphic poses for different expressions is an idea most definitely in the pipeline, you can be sure they'll be posted here (possibly merged into this image) as soon as they're produced! Another thing we hope to do with the face graphics is have them represent any situation forced upon the character's sprite ingame. For example, should a character be struck in the flank by a speeding arrow or stuffing their face with fine beef casserole; we intend to represent this in the face graphic as well as the ingame sprites.

This does all take a great deal of time however, and currently our focus is on other things, such as neat'o battle sequences.

I'd love to see the increasing levels of this lassie as you did with the mercenary types, but I guess you can't have everything. I always prefered the more leathery/roguey pirate look myself, but this works too.

Spiffy how they look at each other; shocked at that. One minor thing is that the highlight on the background critters seems a tad too bright, luring your eye away from the puzzle frame itself.
