This week's challenge idea is brought to you by Umbohr.

Draw a scene with animated long hair. This can be a character throwing their hair back or just hair blowing by the wind on the background of a beautiful sky. Only the hair (of at least one character) needs to be animated to meet the criteria of this challenge. Animating anything else in the scene is completely optional. Drawing an entire character, or detailed facial features is also optional. It can be a blocky manequin or even a wig only. The hair animation is the main focus here.

You have to use the palette chosen by Umbohr — CygnusX18 — made by Space-AgeWrangler.

Canvas size: max. 320x180.
Colours: max 18 (use the palette).
Transparency: no.
Animation: required.

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

The Chain of Challenges, Part 7.

Portrait - RGB + Umbohr = Portrait of Umbohr.

The full title is "Selfportrait of Umbohr made by somone else than Umbohr".
[It is a quote from Weerdmeester's dislike list on 2022 Secret Santa].

You have the right to interpret this title however you like. It can simply be a portrait of Umbohr, or you can surprise us with a wacky understanding of the title, like an "inception" of meta levels of a picture of a painter painting himself, reflected in a mirror or looking at us - the "real" painter (check "Las Meninas" by Velázquez). You can also try to dive deep into science fiction with multiple universes, mulipersonality, time travel, or logical quagmires. The meaning of this challenge title is totally open for interpretation.

The result doesn't have to be a portrait, but if not, it should at least have a portrait of Umbohr as a part of it. For example, a scene with a portrait in it.

Bonus challenge: try to immitate Umbohr's style or use a palette from one of his works.

Canvas size: min 64x64, max 640x640.
Colours: max 64.
Transparency: no.
Animation: optional.

A note to Umbohr:

Dear Umohr, it you wish to participate in this challenge, you have to make "A Portrait of Someone Else than Umbohr made by Umbohr". Sorry, but this is the only way I found it to be fair. By someone esle I mean another member of a PJ community, not just anyone ;)

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

The Chain of Challenges, Part 6.

RGB - RPG Party + Portrait = RGB Portrait.

Draw a portrait using only 4 colours: red, green, blue, and black (black is the background colour), but the trick is to mix them up to achieve more colours when zooming out. You are free to use any creative techniques you like, and the canvas is open in case you would need a lot of space. But if you don't know how to approach this challenge, here is a very clean example of how to become a monitor:

You can use this artwork by RudeThumb as inspiration.

Imagine that your pixel is actually made of 9 pixels, 3x3 square (it would help to set the grid in your editor to 3x3). Now this is your white (I've enlarged the file x4 so it will be visible), and of course this is your black . You can have 3 shades of red , 3 shades of green , and 3 shades of blue , and mix them up to get many combinations like this .

This is a very difficult and time-consuming method, but it can be made easier by inventing some shortcut tricks. For example, prepare a small palette of those 3x3 squares and copy and paste them or use them as brushes. Or you can try to draw a portrait normally, in 1:1, with a small palette of red, green, blue, yellow, magenta, cyan, black, and white, then enlarge it x3 and replace the enlarged pixels with those 3x3 composed of RGB only.

If you already have a simple portrait you haven't published on PJ before, that could work here, and you can spend all of the week editing it to fit this challenge, you are allowed to do so.

As I wrote before, if you come up with your own method of mixing colours with dither or clusters, you are very welcome, as this is just an example.

For everyone who would love to practice this but fear they cannot make it in time, a very minimalistic portrait, which will include a rectangle with two dots as eyes, a line as a mouth, and some shoulder shape, will count.

Canvas size: min 63x63.
Colours: max 4 (255,0,0), (0,255,0), (0, 0, 255), and (0, 0, 0 as background).
Transparency: no.
Animation: no.
